Life Is Better With Cake

Mr Kipling Cake Mr Kipling Cake Mr Kipling Cake Mr Kipling Cake

Mr Kipling has launched an exceedingly good series of creative print ads, using their philosophy ‘life is better with cake’. The campaign features iconic Mr Kipling cakes and reminds us, how even those little everyday moments are made better with a piece of delicious cake. The campaign comes from JWT and David Masterman, a creative director at JWT explains how the campaigns aim was to simply “celebrate Mr Kipling’s wonderful little cakes”.

One Minute Briefs Advertise: Fifty Shades of Grey

fifty shades of grey ad

Just like millions of other people, I to have read Fifty Shades of Grey – yes all three books. Above is my idea/entry for One Minute Briefs to advertise the film. Using film genres/jargon I opted to focus on how the film wasn’t just a romantic chick-flick – as most of us know there’s quite a bit of action!

Odd Love Story Ad From Interflora

Despite this ad being for Denmark it has captured attention from all around the world, with a charming but odd love story which has a surprising twist. The ad shows the love a gothic boy has for a popular preppy girl. But I’ll honestly admit, (along with a large percentage of others who have watched this ad) I did not expect the ending. What’s also great is there is no dialogue in the advert at all which makes it universally appealing and who doesn’t love a good love story? It was also refreshing not to see a bouquet of flowers feature in the advert either, which I imagine was a risk for a florist brand to take but I believe this makes the brand even more appealing and the ad more charming.

Poo-Pourri: Even Santa Poops

Poo-Pourri greeted the internet well and truly just over a year ago with “Girls Don’t Poop” which was quite frankly bloody hilarious and if you haven’t seen it before 1) Where have you been? 2) What you waiting for – go watch!

A couple of days ago they released a special Christmas ad, featuring the big man himself – Santa. Seeing Santa on the loo is something I think we can all safely say we did not expect to see this Christmas! I don’t think it’s quite as good as their first but it is a refreshing ad to see this time of year and definitely stands out compared to all of the other Christmas ads. It has the standard Poo-Pourri charm, with another witty script with a new edition of three posh English girls.

#SingItKitty

Three’s Latest Ad

Following the success of the ‘Dancing Pony’ advert, Three have released their latest ad, ‘Sing It Kitty’, which works perfectly with their current slogan, “We all need silly stuff”. The advert from W+K London features a young girl pedalling away on her bold pink bike with her adorable kitten, whilst singing along to Starship’s hit ‘We Built This City’.

According to The Independent, W+K London was counting on the nations crazy obsession with cats to make this ad a success! Which statistics really do back up: “According to figures released by Three yesterday, the British public posts more than 3.8 million pictures of cats every day, compared to only 1.4 million selfies.

Finally, the stats also revealed around 350,000 people in the UK have social media accounts set up for their cats, although why is another question entirely.”

Plus, the numbers do speak for themselves as just 5 days after being released #SingItKitty has received over 2.6 million views on YouTube.

Now to be honest with you I am not really a cat lover (animals altogether tbh) BUT I did enjoy watching this, as it is entertaining and shot brilliantly. Although, when I did first catch a glance of it on T.V. (before I knew it was for Three), it did remind me of the original GoldieBlox advert (which btw if you haven’t seen it is worth a watch too). Finally, incase some of you were unaware you can visit singitkitty.com and create a personalised video featuring you and the cat – which is actually a real cat by the way!

Overall hats off to you, Three & W+K London!

Top 5 Ads of 2013

Top 5 Ads of 2013

From Girls Not Pooping to Real Beauty Sketches to Shipping Your Pants..

Here are my own personal ‘Top 5 Ads of 2013’, some are because of how effective and successful they were whereas others are simply because they made me laugh and I still refer back to them months later.

1. Camp Gyno: Hello Flo

This video was released online in July and quickly picked up views and got people talking. I have to say I was truly speechless when I watched it for the first time as it was like nothing I had seen before, which is now why I love it! – which may sound a bit weird in the context of what it is advertising (period gift boxes – yep you read right!), but it’s so memorable and of course humorous.

2. Dove Real Beauty Sketches

An ad I am sure you have all seen/heard of which initially seems a tad long but it is definitely worth watching it all, as the results are pretty shocking. Uploaded on to YouTube in April it has over 61 million views, which is seriously impressive for an ad and there is a reason why.. just simply watch it!

3. Guinness: Basketball

As always Guinness creating some of the best adverts of all time and this one is no exception. One that really does pull on your heart strings and shows true friendship.

4. I Just Shipped My Pants

This Kmart ad has had people talking all year, as you can’t help but smile a little inside the first time you watch it. The play on words is a classic and now has over 20 million views which is pretty extraordinary since before the video was released their other videos got around a couple hundred thousand views at most, so it’s a massive jump!

5. Girls Don’t Poop

Another advert that caught me completely of guard and I am still not quite sure what to say about it or how to describe, it simply needs to be watched!

So there we have it, my Top 5 Ads of 2013. Don’t get me wrong there were plenty of others that should or could have been included especially some of the fantastic Christmas adverts that were released but these 5 are some of the most memorable ones to me.

#WorstFavour

Halfords ‘Cheaper Than A Favour’ Campaign

Above is one of the three ads, which are part of Halford’s latest campaign. My other favourite one is the acupuncture one! The series of ad’s show that no favour is ever really for free and we might regret saying, “Let me know how If I can return the favour”.

Pretty humorous ads from ad agency Mother, which do speak a lot of truth and make Halford’s a much more appealing option!

Samsung Galaxy: The Developer

Featuring Lionel Messi and Lorde’s song ‘Royals’

The latest ad from Samsung for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear, is told from a child’s perspective and tells a touching and charming story. Initially, when the ad started I was a little unsure of what was going on as it appeared the man in the suite (Messi) was destroying the children’s dull town but once it is all revealed it is pretty heart warming!

Mercedes-Benz Chicken Style

Magic Body Control Ad

I have to say I wasn’t expecting this type of advertising from Mercedes-Benz at all but it’s refreshingly funny and enjoyable to watch. The combination of the well recognised music and close up shots of chickens makes quite an entertaining ad. I personally couldn’t help but smile when it first starting playing.

It was only released yesterday but there are one or two articles online pointing out that this “chicken idea” has been done before, for Fujifilm, which you can see here. Even though it has been done before, I think it’s fair to say that this does happen a lot in advertising, not always but sometimes. But I feel that the Mercedes-Benz ad is a lot better as I think the execution is a lot stronger. Plus, and I guess most importantly for some I actually find it a lot more entertaining!

Girls Don’t Poop

Absolutely Hilarious Ad From PooPourri

I’m not quite sure what to say to describe or speak about this advert as it left me pretty speechless! But whether you like the ad or product it has received nearly 8 million views on YouTube since 10th September and according to their website they’ve sold over four million bottles.

Gangnam Style Like You’ve Never Seen Before

Kiss TV: Songs Without Music

This ad comes from Kiss TV, which is a Spanish music channel. It’s fairly amusing to watch and is part of a campaign which also includes two other TV ads featuring, LMFAO – Party Rock Anthem and M.I.A – Bad Girls.

One Of The Most Uncomfortable Anti-Smoking Ads?

CDC’s advert staring Terrie Hall, who passed away this week.

By chance I came across this as after seeing online the news that Terrie Hall, who is the lady in the advert had passed away this week, aged 53. Admittedly, I didn’t know whom she was or hadn’t seen this particular advert before but after watching it, I have to say it did leave an impact.

I personally think it’s a very uncomfortable ad to watch, not in the sense that you would stop it but because I think it is extremely effective by showing the harsh reality of what smoking can cause. I don’t personally smoke so I can’t really comment but I would like to think any smoker that watched this would seriously think twice.

Some may watch this video and think they’ve just used her as a marketing/advertising gimmick, which is understandable but the CDC stated the campaign, ‘Tips From Former Smokers” which included Terrie’s ad prompted over 100,000 people to quit smoking, which when you think about it, is quite a large amount. Plus, CDC director, Dr. Tom Frieden stated, “She may well have saved more lives than most doctors do.”

Emotional Thai Advert Has People All Over The World Sobbing

Tissues At The Ready?

The film speaks for itself but I would say please watch the whole advert, 3 minutes might seem like a long time for an advert but it is worth every second, with this touching and tear-jerker storyline.

A-Ha Styled Ad From Volkswagen

Volkswagen’s Latest Ad Using A-Ha’s ‘Take On Me’ Theme

This ad appeared on the Internet today and I was surprised of the approach they had taken but nevertheless I did enjoy watching it. Plus, I found the unexpected ending rather amusing too and pretty genius.

It’s a clever way to advertise, ‘not paying for scheduled maintenance’ which let’s face it doesn’t sound overly exciting!

It was created by ad agency, Deutsch, Los Angeles
